“Life is crashing in around me. I feel like giving up.”
Reading the email from my friend, my heart feels so heavy. She has gone through so much in the past, and now she has huge personal and family challenges which weigh her down. She is still in the healing process from incredible abuse and immense family dysfunction. It doesn’t take much to send a fragile soul into a state of overwhelm and a downhill slide, and she seems to be immersed in depression.
I talk with her on the phone, praying and reading Scripture. God’s Word is Truth and Life, and I hear my friend and sister breathing more deeply as these words inundate her soul.
Jesus, I beseech you to grant some relief to your beautiful child. Will you let her see the healing work you are already doing in her heart and assure her that you have already won the battle. She belongs to you and you have bought her with your blood and resurrection. Fill her with the fullness of your life and power. Hold her close and renew her hope. Please work the truth of this verse into her heart and spirit and body and soul:
For God, who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,” made His light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ. Now we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this surpassingly great power is from God and not from us. We are hard pressed on all sides, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed.
2 Corinthians 4:6-9
and this one:
And we know that God works all things together for the good of those who love Him, who are called according to His purpose. For those God foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, so that He would be the firstborn among many brothers. And those He predestined, He also called; those He called, He also justified; those He justified, He also glorified.
Romans 8:28-39
What then shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? He who did not spare His own Son but gave Him up for us all, how will He not also, along with Him, freely give us all things? Who will bring any charge against God’s elect? It is God who justifies. Who is there to condemn us? For Christ Jesus, who died, and more than that was raised to life, is at the right hand of God—and He is interceding for us.
Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or distress or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword?
No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor principalities, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
I just realized that in Romans 8, both Jesus and the Holy Spirit are praying for us. That makes a quorum in God’s economy for accomplishing His purposes! We can’t get more powerful prayer warriors than that!
Truly I tell you, whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven. Again, I tell you truly that if two of you on the earth agree about anything you ask for, it will be done for you by My Father in heaven. For where two or three gather together in My name, there am I with them.”
Matthew 18:18-20
Jesus and Holy Spirit, we ask you to bind Satan and his minions from tormenting my friend. Bind up the spirits of depression, condemnation, shame, failure, destruction and dehumanization, along with all the others. They have no right to her. She has been cleansed by your blood and is white as snow. Everything in her past has been cleansed and she is a new person. We ask you to guard and protect her and to release the fullness of your life in her. Let her know that you have completely defeated Satan, sin and the power and fear of death.
Now since the children have flesh and blood, He too shared in their humanity, so that by His death He might destroy him who holds the power of death, that is, the devil, and free those who all their lives were held in slavery by their fear of death.
Hebrews 2:14-15
Thank you, Lord. Father, you are victorious and your daughter is victorious in you. In the name of Jesus! Amen

Calmness and confidence permeate her voice. “Thank you so much! That really helps. Now I have something to focus on. I know the Lord is with me.”
Update: A week after this conversation, my friend still feels the impact of the conversation, scriptures, and prayer. Life continues to be painful and very difficult, and she has a firmer grasp on the ONE who holds her completely in His love and care.
This is an incredibly stressful time for many people with the rampant fear and spread of CoronaVirus. Maybe you are one of them.
Do you know the power of God’s word for all the circumstances and emotions that threaten to drown you? The enemy of our souls would love to swamp you in fear terror and depression so that you are ineffective in your walk with God.
I urge you to reach out to a trusted friend who is a strong believer to ask for support, prayer and Scripture truth. I will also commit to praying for any who leave a comment below or contact me via email. There is great power in praying with others, and we know that the BEST two interceders are already talking to God about you! God uses prayer and meditation on His word sometimes to equip us for the battles we face, not necessarily to remove us from the war.
How may I pray for you?
Pray in the Spirit at all times, with every kind of prayer and petition. To this end, stay alert with all perseverance in your prayers for all the saints.
Ephesians 6:18
