About 30 years ago, I took a Creative Writing class and learned many types of poetry. I am sharing some of those works from time to time. This poem style has a specific name which is long-forgotten to my memory and I am grateful for anyone who can identify it for me.
The Word,
first spoken at the edge of
Eternity,
Filled the expanse
with something new–
Sound waves race
outward through the darkness
becoming
the very thing
their contents described.
Light,
shimmering and glowing,
effuses a brilliance
unparalleled
even by the A-bomb.
Power
to create
out of nothing
billions of fiery stars–
held in place only
by a will and a word.
Wisdom
separates
waters above and waters below;
dry land and seas;
day and night;
seasons and years.
Miracles
abound
in the orderly
fashioning of every
green herb and seed bearing tree,
each uniquely gifted
for wholeness and health.
Life
springs forth to cover
the land, the seas, the skies–
in multitudes, and in diversity–
matched pairs
seeking each other’s scent
on the wind.
A breath
ignites a rosy color and sentience
into a pile of dust.
The creatures watch
in awe
at the forming of this new
Life.

The height
and purpose of creation,
man seeks
for his mate to no avail.
He returns and places himself
in the Creator’s hands,
sleeping while he awaits
the Miracle.
Separating
woman from man and then,
bringing them back again
as one,
foreshadows the journey
man will take with his Creator–
a path foretold by
Wisdom.
Strong will
pulls man to ever
claim his own place,
to go his own way–
until he knows he is lost,
helpless, needing some other
Power.
Shattered
and left on his face,
his eyes now focus as he
purposes
to stand and walk in the ray of
Light.
Exposed
as dust and nakedness,
the man lowers his head
in shame; and now sees
something new–
shimmering, glowing,
filling his darkness with
Eternity as he opens himself
and becomes infused with
The Living Word.
We proclaim to you the one who existed from the beginning, whom we have heard and seen. We saw him with our own eyes and touched him with our own hands. He is the Word of life.
1 John 1:1 New Living Translation
I would love to hear your feedback on this poem. It is based on Genesis chapters 2 and 3 as well as the central themes of the Scriptures from Genesis to Revelation-–Creation, man’s fall into sin, and earthly and eternal redemption through Jesus Christ.

This is absolutely beautiful. Is it Chiasmus? I am no author/poet, so probably not. Nevertheless, reading this, i can completely “see” the events happening as you so wonderfully describe them. Love it.

Thank you for that lead. As I looked at examples of chiasmus, it seems to be more related to couplets or even single lines, rather than stanza organization. Since the class was so long ago, the name does not ring a bell at all, so I am open to learning more!
